twofo represents the state of online discussion and filesharing for students at the University of Warwick. At present, it consists of a Direct Connect ('DC++') hub which is situated off campus, allowing us to discuss stuff. There is unlikely to be an on campus alternative anytime in the future, however anybody from campus is free to connect. Please see the links below for more information.

Post details: DC++ v0.705
DC++ v0.705
As those of you still using DC++ over the holidays will no doubt have found, a new version of DC++, 0.705, has been released and is considered stable. This means that whenever you open your client, it will tell you that you should upgrade.
Whereas this is normally a good thing, the new version introduces a feature called segmented downloading. What this does is split each of your downloads into 100s, sometimes 1000s of smaller pieces, which it then downloads individually. Off campus where connection speeds are slow this can help massively with downloading as you can get more from different people.
On campus though this is a very large problem as it makes your computer work doubly hard for each download since the speed is so fast (and also segmenting the download this way is wholly unnecessary). So to disable this as best you can, go to
File -> Settings -> Advanced -> Expert Settings and put 10000000 into the Min Segment Size box in the bottom right.
This means DC++ will not try to split any files into segments smaller than 10,000,000kiB or 10GiB. This will be easily enough to cover most of the files you are likely to download on the hub.
Obviously, if you do not wish to upgrade to this version you do not have to.
