twofo represents the state of online discussion and filesharing for students at the University of Warwick. At present, it consists of a Direct Connect ('DC++') hub which is situated off campus, allowing us to discuss stuff. There is unlikely to be an on campus alternative anytime in the future, however anybody from campus is free to connect. Please see the links below for more information.

The twofo BBQ is now underway! Follow the Health Centre road down and look for the flames! Lots of drink and food for all. Contact the twofo hotline on 07986 666383.

Social time again! As we reach the end of the year and people are (finally) finishing their exams, we are arranging the last twofo social of the year to allow people to say goodbye in style. As usual there will be two parts to the social, the first in Leamington Spa on the evening of Friday 19th June and the second on campus on Saturday 20th June.
Twofo Hotline: 07896 666 383
Please ring this number if you are lost or late/cannot find us and a friendly twofo type person will come to your air.
Friday 19th June - Leamington Spa - Bar Crawl/Leamington Exploration
The presocial will star at 7pm (roughly) in Wetherspoons in central Leamington. After a time here for eating and early drinking we shall begin a bar crawl around Leam. All are welcome to join, and if you arrive late ring the hotline and some useful person will guide you towards us.
Saturday 20th June - Main Campus - BBQ/General Social
Option A: A BBQ (somewhere) on main campus. We shall move to campus around 4ish in order to set up the BBQ stuff/buy required components from Tescos hopefully to start around 5ish. Anybody willing to lend a hand is more than welcome, and likely to get first dibs on whatever food is available. There will also be a vegetarian option for those wishing it.
Could anybody willing to help out that we don't already know of please post a comment on http://www.twofo.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=544 so we know to look for you.
Option B: Failing this, we shall stay indoors from the glorious English rainy summer most likely in either 'The Bar' (aka Rootes bar or Airport bar depending on how old you are) or 'The Dirty Duck' (aka The Graduate/Grad). The exact location will most likely be decided on the day itself so if you can't find us, again ring the hotline.
Which of these options is taken is entirely dependent on the quality of the day itself come Saturday, and we shall do our best to keep this page updated with whichever route we take.
Hard Drive replacement - 4th May
Twofo will be down this afternoon (4th May) for an hour from 4pm for a hard drive update. Neither the hub nor the website will be accessible during this time.
Update: All complete successfully, so everything is back up and working again.
Scheduled Maintenance - Sunday 22nd March
The physical server that twofo resides will be offline for an Operating System upgrade from approximately 8pm - 10pm on Sunday night. This means that both the hub and the website will not be available. It also means that the server's uptime of 222 days will be reduced to zero :( The upgrade should provide some performance and security improvements though.
78.x.y.z access to twofo
![[something went wrong] [something went wrong]](http://www.twofo.co.uk/pics/explosion_sm.jpg)
People with IP addresses matching 78.x.y.z have not been able to access twofo and the server in general over the last few days. This was because of a misconfiguration when adding a new IP address to the server (the netmask was set wrongly). All access should now work again. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Social 11 - Week 8 (27th/28th Feb)
Twofo social time is almost upon us and for once it has been arranged for a time that doesn't clash with compsoc lans, or filmsoc allnighters, so nobody should have an excuse for not turning up. As per usual there will be two socials, one held in and around Leamington Spa on the Friday evening and the other on campus on the Saturday afternoon and into the night.
Pre-Social - Friday 27th February - 7pm, Wetherspoons
We shall start the pub crawl around Leam in Wetherspoons on the main road, and will be there a reasonable amount of time to allow people to get food and for other people to arrive late. Should we have moved on just ring the twofo hotline (number will appear here nearer the time of the social) to find out where we are.
Main Social - Saturday 28th February - 5pm, Rootes Bar, Campus
The main social will begin officially at 5pm on main campus in Rootes bar. We tend to be there for a while before splitting up and moving to either The Grad or into the Union if the event on looks reasonable. There will be posters pointing to where we are sat, but again if you can't find us ring the hotline.
Everybody and anybody is encouraged to attend to say hello and meet us. For the most part almost everybody says we don't look how they imagine us to have looked from speaking online for a while, and we really aren't very scary. The more the merrier as with all of these things.
Hub Instabilities
![[something went wrong] [something went wrong]](http://www.twofo.co.uk/pics/explosion_sm.jpg)
Lately as some of you may have noticed the hub is crashing a bit. As of yet we don't know what is causing this so it is likely to happen again. It DOES NOT mean the hub has been shut down or anything like like, merely that when it crashed there was nobody immediately available to sort it out. It does mean however that as there is nobody about at the time then nothing will have been updated as to why the hub is down.
So if you notice you can't connect, and you don't remember being kicked, check with somebody else first and see if they are getting the same issue. If they are chances are it's crashed again and will be back up again as soon as possible so bear with us.
Obviously if you have been kicked and want to get back pop along to www.twofo.co.uk/forum and explain why you should be allowed back on.
Astropoint's guide to searching
There appear to be a fair number of people on the hub who do not know how to use the search function (yes there actually is one if you go to View -> Search, or click on the little magnifying glass at the top of the DC++ window), so I thought it would be a good idea to write a few basic tips on using it properly.
Any completely new users here can still find guides to connecting on the twofo wiki.
1. If you aren't getting search results for anything, check your IP is correct. Search for something generic like 'music', if you get no results for that then it is extremely likely that your client is set up wrong and you won't be able to download either.
2. Be specific. The search returns matches for anything with the queries you enter. So take a hypothetical user Joshy Woshy. He desperately wants the newest version of his favourite soap opera linux, or specifically the ubuntu variety of it, but is unable to find it in amongst the hundreds of results he gets. So instead of just searching for 'linux' he could search for 'ubuntu linux', or possibly even 'ubuntu linux .iso' to narrow the results down to files to specifically .iso files. Furthermore, he could be specific about the exact version/episode he wants, so could search for 'ubuntu linux 8 10 iso' bringing him the results he is after, saving him having to wade through a very long list of mostly irrelevant results.
3. Remember you can only get 10 results from each user. Similarly to point 2, being specific with your searches will solve this problem almost completely. By default, DC++ can only receive 10 results from each user per search, so if your search is too generic then it will only display the first 10 matching results from each user online. This is hardcoded into DC++ so you can't change it. Back with our hypothetical Joshy Woshy searching for linux, by just searching for 'linux' he is more likely to get results for people with 'fedora linux' as this is higher up in the alphabet than 'ubuntu linux' which is what he is really after. If 10 results are returned from a user with fedora linux isos then none would be returned for ubuntu, leaving poor Joshy Woshy unsatisfied.
4. Search really does work. If there are absolutely no results for something you are searching for (and you have checked it isn't a configuration problem, see point 1) then nobody on the hub at the time you searched has what you are after. Subsequently asking for it in main chat will do no good as a) people who haven't shared it so far are unlikely to bother just because you, a completely random person asks, and b) even if they were feeling inclined to, chances are they won't be there at the time.
I hope this helps some of you a bit.
As a final point do try to be nice and share everything you download, if only as a common courtesy. It really isn’t nice to come online and just leech without sharing anything back as it’s really not all that difficult to do, and is blindingly obvious when people are doing it.
Happy New Year to you all, and welcome back.
