twofo represents the state of online discussion and filesharing for students at the University of Warwick. At present, it consists of a Direct Connect ('DC++') hub which is situated off campus, allowing us to discuss stuff. There is unlikely to be an on campus alternative anytime in the future, however anybody from campus is free to connect. Please see the links below for more information.

Misc

Cocodude has now hopefully sorted out the new server for twofo (Emohawk) and twofo will be again transferred to this new server soon. We hope to start this process some time today (Monday), so the forum may be disabled on the old server whilst the move is performed. If you find very few people on the hub, you may also need to restart DC++, stunnel or flush your DNS configuration.

I'm afraid the server that twofo is running on will be moving back to the old server (legion), hopefully this Saturday. I'm having trouble diagnosing the issues with the new server and hard drives that seem to constantly die. Thus, there might be a little bit of downtime, or out of date information, while the IP address change happens. The forum will be disabled on the old server this Saturday.
Server downtime (updated)
Sorry for the short notice, but Emohawk's hard drives are being troublesome and the server will be going down for testing from about 6.30pm this evening (30th June) for up to two hours. This will result in the hub and all GigaTux and twofo websites going down.
Update: The drive appears to be dead. I've managed to convince my ISP to test out the drive again as it could well have died due to an outage that occurred on Sunday morning. Twofo will be down from 7.30pm this evening (Tuesday), but I'm not sure yet when it will return.
Social 9 Photos
Well, the last social of the 2007 - 2008 academic year has finished, and what fun it was! Photos are now available at http://www.indivisibilities.com/gallery/ (click on 'twofo Pictures' and enter the password 'twofo'). Once again, I think a great time was had by all.
Please keep an eye on this thread for details of a twofo Summer Camp social that will hopefully be happening in August. If you're unable to make that, there will, as always, be more socials next term, so see you then!
Twofo Social 9 - Summer 2008
Term is gradually drawing to a close and the last twofo social of the year is approaching at roughly the same speed.
Pre-Social - Friday 20th June
As normal there will be a pre-social in Leamington on the Friday (20th June), starting around 7pm in The Avenue (near the church at the bottom of the parade). This takes the form of a pub crawl around Leam. There is no route planned as such so if arriving in Leamington on the Friday ring the hotline.
Main Social - Saturday 21st June
There are two possibilities for the Saturday social. If the weather is nice enough, we may decide to have the social on one of the fields round the back of Tocil/Arthur Vick. Unfortunately, because of the wonderful British weather, there will no longer be a BBQ. There will be a DDR session in Cholo, in the main union building, from 4pm-5pm, followed by many drinks in the bar/airport/Rootes social building.
Later in the evening we will most likely split up, some people going to The Graduate and some into the Union itself for whatever event is on.
We will keep the homepage as up to date as possible with our plans, but again if you are unsure the hotline will be live.
Previous socials have all been highly successful and everybody is encouraged to attend if possible. We're not as scary as we might seem on the hub, honest.

Server Move
As previously mentioned here, twofo will be moving to a new server. The new server, called emohawk, is running right now and is hosting the current version of the hub. You should not need to do anything to see the change, but it may take 24 hours for the change in IP address to be propogated across the internet. If you still seem to be using the old hub/old version of the website by Thursday, please flush your DNS cache. The forum on the old server will be disabled. Please note that stunnel users will need to restart stunnel in order to pick up the IP change.
The new server is a lovely 1U, Core 2 Quad Q6600 with 2 x 1TB hard disks and 8GB RAM, lovingly built by Cocodude. 2GB RAM will be reserved for the server partition that twofo runs on, with the rest being shared with other GigaTux VPS users in the future.
The server you are currently viewing is the new server (Emohawk).
10GB minimum share

The minimum share on twofo has now been raised to 10GiB. We have done this simply because there are so many people not sharing what they download back to the hub. If you downloaded it, surely other people do too?
We have also heard some people say that they don’t share because they see no point sharing stuff already on the hub. This is not the case because having more sources for files is a massive help on the higher sharers. So rather than one of them sharing one file, 5 people share the same file, and everybody is happier for it.
On that note, a lot of you may find the Search for Alternatives option very useful if waiting in long queues. To turn it on, go to File -> Settings -> Downloads -> Queue, and tick the box for Automatically Search for Alternative Download locations. The more people that share the better this function works.
Advance notice of server move
Legion, the server that twofo is hosted on, will be moving to a new server, Emohawk, within the next few weeks. At present, the amount of RAM available for twofo is quite small and this is why there have been some slowdowns recently. Emohawk is a Core 2 Quad machine with 8GB RAM and 2 x 1TB hard disks. A reasonable proportion of this will be allocated for twofo's use. I'll update this with the estimated moving date when it is known.
