What is twofo?

twofo represents the state of online discussion and filesharing for students at the University of Warwick. At present, it consists of a Direct Connect ('DC++') hub which is situated off campus, allowing us to discuss stuff. There is unlikely to be an on campus alternative anytime in the future, however anybody from campus is free to connect. Please see the links below for more information.

Twofo Social 14 - Spring 2010

funWith the social nearly upon us, it seems like a sensible idea to finalise some plans for the weekend. There will be socials on both the Friday and Saturday nights of the weekend (5th/6th March) to which anybody and everybody associated with twofo is more than welcome to come. Meeting new (and old) people is always good, as is putting faces to the names of the people you may have been chatting to for a while.

Friday 5th March - Main Campus (Real Ale Festival)

Rootes Bar/Fusion - 7pm

Ring the twofo hotline on 07919 888376 to find out where we are

To take advantage of the end of the Real Ale Festival at the Union, the locations of the socials have been switched this time, so we will be on campus on the Friday. Initial meeting will be in Rootes Bar/Fusion at around 7pm. Those who wish to can then go onto the Real Ale Festival at their leisure. Eventually we will probably move up to the Dirty Duck (Grad) as the evening wears on.

Saturday 6th March - Leamington Bar Crawl

Wetherspoons - 6pm

Our customary bar crawl in/around Leam will be on the Saturday, meeting in Wetherspoons at 6pm for some food if required/desired. It is unlikely we will be staying here for that long, so if people are arriving late then ring the hotline (provided on the day) to find out where we have moved to.

Hope to see you all there!

DNS being updated

GigaTuxThe DNS servers that twofo.co.uk is authoritative to (basically, the thing that converts twofo.co.uk into an IP address) are being moved in house to GigaTux. Hopefully you will not notice this at all, but if you have problems resolving anything twofo-related (e.g. hub.twofo.co.uk) into the correct IP address, please let me know at your earliest convenience by emailing info@gigatux.com. If this doesn't make any sense to you, please ignore it!

Twofo Social 13 - Winter 2009

funThe first twofo social of the year (and also conversely the last, depending on your point of view). As per previous socials there will be two nights of the social, one on Friday in Coventry and one on campus on the Saturday. Anybody and everybody is more than welcome to one or both.

Ring the twofo hotline on 07919 888376 to find out where we are

Friday 4th December - Coventry - Bar Crawl/Cov Exploration

Wetherspoons (Cov City Centre) 7pm

As a change from the standard Leamington social we are trying a social in Coventry. The plan is to start in the Wetherspoons in the city centre (near the bus station) at hopefully around 7pm. We shall then move on to other pubs as and when the move takes us, or Cocodude moves us along. If you are late then ring the hotline number to find where we are.

Saturday 5th December - Main Campus

Rootes Bar/Fusion - 5pm

Saturday we will be in Fusion Bar (Rootes/Airport) from around 5pm, after a lightning twofo poster spamming session of campus. We will likely be there for a while, until we move up to the Grad bar later on, or in some cases onto whichever Union event is on that night. Again, if you can't find us, ring the hotline number.

See you there!

Twofo Social 13 - 5th/6th December

funTerm flies past and before you know it it's time for the first twofo social of the year (academically speaking anyway). Past socials have been a great success for twofo, to the point where this is our 13th now. Obviously anybody not coming to the 13th social is going to be highly unlucky for the rest of the year.

Generally the format for the socials goes along the lines of a pub crawl in Leamington on the Friday night (5th) and a social in/around the bars on campus on the Saturday afternoon-evening-night (6th). Any and all members of twofo be they casual users or unable to ever leave are more than welcome to come to either. It is always good to match (infamous) names to faces, so come along.

Further discussion of specific plans for the weekend will be found at http://www.twofo.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=637 and posted here once finalised.

Welcome Back

twofo logoWelcome back to returning people from previous years and hello to all freshers newly arriving on the hub! New people may be interested in the preconfigured DC++ client for twofo found at http://www.twofo.co.uk/resources/twofoDC++.exe. This contains all the programs you need for connecting to twofo along with instructions on how to use them. Non windows users, or users wanting to configure their own clients, can however find instructions on the twofo wiki.

Twofo is an online community based at Warwick open to anybody that wishes to connect. Everybody is welcome on the hub and we even run socials during term time to allow people to put names to the nicks they see online.

It should be said however that using twofo is against the Resnet AUP. ITS have in the past (quite a long time ago now though) disconnected users for being on the hub so you are using the hub at your own risk unfortunately. To minimise this you should try to follow the guides to blocking external connections to DC++ on the wiki.

However we hope to see as many people online as possible. Further questions can be asked on the twofo forums or on the hub itself.

Happy twofoing!

NB. If it asks for a password when you first connect to the hub, DO NOT PANIC. it just means you have chosen a nick already registered to somebody else (common things like Adam, Joe etc would have been registered eons ago), so simply pick a different nick and try again.

Twofo ISP Issues

[something went wrong]

The hosting centre twofo is located in is having severe problems with its routers at present so access to the hub is intermittent if possible at all. There is nothing unfortunately we can do about this besides wait for them to fix the problem(s) and there no available ETA on this at the present time.

EDIT: They have now fixed their routers so everybody should now be able to access the hub once again.
