twofo is a [Direct Connect] hub. This means that you will need a suitable Direct Connect client for you computer in order to connect. These clients are available for many operating systems, including Windows, Linux and MacOS.

Available Clients:

Windows - DC++ - see here for a tutorial

Linux - Valknut , LinuxDCC

MacOS - MacDC++ , Valknut for Mac, Shakespeer

Connecting from the Campus Residential Network (warwickpiazza)

Connect to hub.twofo.co.uk:4144. The reason for the :4144 is because the standard Direct Connect port is presently blocked, so access has to be performed on this alternate port. There is no difference in functionality when using this port or the standard port. People within the Campus Residential Network are required to set up their client so that the client speed is set to LAN(T3).

Connecting from outside warwickpiazza

Connect to hub.twofo.co.uk. This connects on the standard port which typically is not blocked by ISPs. Feel free to use the above port if this one does not work. People outside the Campus Residential Network are required to set up their client so that the client speed is not set to LAN(T1) or LAN(T3). Other speeds, such as 28.8k, Cable or DSL are OK.

Downloading and Uploading - It doesn't work!

Please see the Problems Page.

Downloading and Uploading - Speeds

When downloading a file, you will get the best speed if both you and the other party are on campus. Up to 11MB/sec can be achieved this way. Much slower speeds will be obtained if one or both parties are off campus. I have personally found that if you are off campus, greater speeds can be achieved by downloading from an on campus user during the night or early morning.

Downloading and Uploading - What works

Because of the way IP addresses are allocated on the Campus Residential Network, transferring files to/from addresses outside this network do not always work. Additionally, transferring a file between two passive users will never work. Please consult the below table to see what download types work:

   * You are in Active mode and within the Campus Residential Network
