Plans have been finalised for the summer twofo social this year. As before everybody/anybody is welcome to come to either the Friday or Saturday event or both (or neither if you are particularly fail). A hotline will be provided on the day to enable those who cannot find us to get directions to whatever location we may have ended up in.
Wetherspoons - 7pm
Our almost legendary Leamington bar crawl is back where it belongs on the Friday night, after a brief venture in the spring to the weekend. We shall meet in Wetherspoons bar in Leamington at ~7pm and stay there for a round or two and/or food, before venturing out into the deep dark depths of the town. Should you be late and miss us then call the hotline number.
Campus (somewhere) - 5pm
Only on the actual day can we decide which of these two options will happen. We'll keep this page as up to date as possible but it ought to be fairly obvious to most people which it is likely to be ;)
Option A: Given nice weather we will hopefully manage a BBQ on campus somewhere on the Saturday afternoon. We would likely be moving to campus around 4-5ish to set things up as well as buy necessary supplies from Tescos. Donations of more food (or specific food for vegetarians etc amongst you) would be highly useful. Specifically where this will be we will only find out on the day, but we shall keep this page updated as best we can.
This will continue regardless of any football that may or may not be showing, so people are welcome to join us afterwards.
Option B: Should the great English summer live up to its reputation and dump a river load of rain on campus then we shall obviously not be having a BBQ. In this eventuality we shall retire to a bar or two on campus. We shall be aiming to meet for ~5pm on the Saturday in Fusion (Rootes bar/Airport bar) and more than likely move up to the Dirty Duck (Grad bar) as the evening moves on.
This may be challenged by any football that is on, so we shall see at the time. Updates will be posted here.
Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Summer in all its rainy glory has arrived, and it is nearly time for the final Twofo social of the year. As in previous years this has to be at the end of week 9 (weekend of 25th/26th June) in order to avoid the exams of as many people as possible, so apologies to those of you who cannot make it.
As with previous summers, we are hoping to have a BBQ on Saturday. Obviously this is weather permitting (so if it rains we all just troop off to the nearest bar). This means that the Friday social is likely to be in Leamington Spa, most likely starting in Wetherspoons, but that is up for negotiation.
For the football fanatics amongst you who want to watch the world cup, whatever may be on that day, there will be people there who stay at the BBQ the whole afternoon, so anybody wishing to watch the football in the union or wherever can come and go as they please. You may lose out on food though if you do this, so be warned.
Plans beyond that for now are minimal, but you are welcome to voice any other ideas on the forums at http://www.twofo.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=685

The physical server that twofo is hosted on (Emohawk) will be replaced with a similar server on Thursday evening. This is to remove I/O bottlenecks and enable us to properly diagnose the old server. The twofo hub, website and mail services will not be available during this window.
UPDATE - Whilst the upgrade took longer than expected, it was a success and the I/O bottleneck appears to have been removed
There is a new version of DC++ out, and those of you who are already on twofo will start getting update notices from your clients pretty soon. The new version is perfectly fine to use on twofo, but if you have previously installed the preconfigured twofo version of DC++ then you will want to get the compressed version of DC++ available at http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/dcplusplus/DC%2B%2B%200.761/DCPlusPlus-0.761.zip
Extract the files in the zip archive and overwrite the files in your current DC++ directory. If you get the installer from the DC++ website you may end up losing all your current settings and having to rehash everything.
In either case you will most likely have to recreate any firewall rules you have in place so get your firewall checked again if you have had it set up previously.
New users to twofo are of course still more than welcome to get the preconfigured twofo client (which has been updated to the new version) from http://www.twofo.co.uk/resources/twofoDC++.exe

The server twofo runs on seems to be having issues at the moment and consequently is going down completely overnight when the various security jobs scheduled to run then, run. Consequently, if you can't connect to the hub in the early hours of the morning, or the morning itself then it is likely because it has gone down again and is just waiting on somebody to be around to reboot it. It is not ITS or anybody else blocking the hub in any way, so there is no need to panic :P
EDIT: Short term the problems have been sorted as far as we can see. Celebrate!
With the social nearly upon us, it seems like a sensible idea to finalise some plans for the weekend. There will be socials on both the Friday and Saturday nights of the weekend (5th/6th March) to which anybody and everybody associated with twofo is more than welcome to come. Meeting new (and old) people is always good, as is putting faces to the names of the people you may have been chatting to for a while.
Rootes Bar/Fusion - 7pm
To take advantage of the end of the Real Ale Festival at the Union, the locations of the socials have been switched this time, so we will be on campus on the Friday. Initial meeting will be in Rootes Bar/Fusion at around 7pm. Those who wish to can then go onto the Real Ale Festival at their leisure. Eventually we will probably move up to the Dirty Duck (Grad) as the evening wears on.
Wetherspoons - 6pm
Our customary bar crawl in/around Leam will be on the Saturday, meeting in Wetherspoons at 6pm for some food if required/desired. It is unlikely we will be staying here for that long, so if people are arriving late then ring the hotline (provided on the day) to find out where we have moved to.
Hope to see you all there!
Andrew Robinson, the leader of The UK Pirate Party is coming to speak next Tuesday (the 9th of February). Come along at 6.30pm to room SO.20 (in Social Studies) to meet the organisation fighting for the rights of filesharers in the UK.
The event is organised by Warwick Libertarians and attendance is free. Following the talk there will be plenty of scope for Q&As and Andrew will then join us for an informal social in the Duck. Further details are available on facebook or at the Warwick Libertarians website.
The DNS servers that twofo.co.uk is authoritative to (basically, the thing that converts twofo.co.uk into an IP address) are being moved in house to GigaTux. Hopefully you will not notice this at all, but if you have problems resolving anything twofo-related (e.g. hub.twofo.co.uk) into the correct IP address, please let me know at your earliest convenience by emailing info@gigatux.com. If this doesn't make any sense to you, please ignore it!
