this program was mentioned in another thread, i just installed it and it looks like it could be a good alternative.

for testing purposes, i've created a new warwick network

once you've got it installed and looked at the tutorial (good idea) then join a network with following details:

name: warwick university
pass: warwick

then we can see how this thing works...

actually scrap the 'join network' thing, hamachi is alot more powerful than that...

you can host a local shareaza network via hamachi, i've set up my PC to be a dedicated hub at the moment, if anyone wants to follow the guide on the hamachi forums and try to connect to me that'll be great

my hamachi ip is: 5.6.112.243

and the guide is here: http://forums.hamachi.cc/viewtopic.php?t=2350

good luck!

You can't ping accross resnet, ITS have blocked it

Do you mean ping across different subnets has been blocked ?

Because I can ping a whole pile of machines that I know of but they are all in the same subnet...

Blocking ping is just about the stupidest thing I can think of doing... ping and al the other icmp stuff should be on the highest priority...

they didnt block ping on purpose, they just didnt forward all the ICMP packets, which is a good thing, if they were to route ICMP packets all over resnet, it would be expensive and a waste.

Most likely not.. mistake was to setup a "hub".. It then becomes just as easy to shutdown as a DC++ hub.. So ITS probably just disconnected it!

sorry, no i got rid of it in the end i did some testing with some peeps around my halls and it sucked ass heh. good idea in theory, but it has to go via the internet to establish a connection with the 'hamachi' servers before it can do anything....
