Just tried to connect to the penguin hub and the connection is timing out. Is it offline now or what?

Just pointing out that nobody can connect at the moment - we never got round to blocking anything, so there's no need to send PMs asking why you can't

Looks like ITS have found out about the hub. They've cut all network/internet access to Smelly_Kat's room by the looks of it (unless it's a general network problem, but we haven't yet met anybody with the same issue). We're currently waiting to see what ITS are going to do to us, haven't heard anything though.
So, until further notice The Penguin is offline.

how do you think they found out about it? Do you have any idea what's going to happen to Smelly_Kat?

No idea how they found out, but they almost certainly have. Smelly_Kat can't connect at all to the ResNet so they seem to have just disconnected her room. No idea what's going to happen to her - rumours floating for £100 fine to eviction. Wish us luck!

damn damn damn!

this is so screwed up.

To be honest, I heard there were members of ITS on the old hub, which means they would have known about the off campus hub, hence known about this website, hence known about this forum...

So at the end of the day, if they have decided to ban dc, theres no way they aren't going to find out about a hub really.. unless it only travels by word of mouth, no internet links at all...

and only if people are discrete about it, which most people seem to find impossible.

ah crap, should have made more use of it when i had the chance

this SUCKS

Right I read somewhere that there is a new 'security' director at ITS.

I am sure ITS people are cool guys, but I think this might have something to do with 'security' director appointment.

on a similarly related topic: i'm getting a "Connection refused by target machine" when connecting to the twofo hub...

thought i'd go back to that hub instead not thepenguin is down so any ideas?

Twofo is down for everybody currently (even the off campus people) so it's not the uni blocking it. Cocodude's hub program has probably crashed and he hasn't noticed yet
