ITS actually slowing down the network ?

Post by CrAzYfOoL »

Well its late and i mite not be seeing things straight but im sure that the internet has got slower since we have been here, when i got here i tested the speed of the internet just to see how fast it really was i screenied it and left it at that. Just come across it and did another test and got a significant decrease in speed, now i dont know if this is due to ITS or what but im guessing its not load on the server as its 1:33am not many people online.... just thought it was interesting

look at the dates and times of the tests also

see first there was that "router break down" then there was "transitional stage" then there was "P2P apps are killing the network" next it will be "aliens killed half our staff and stole the network"... I mean I think we can all really agree that its all a bunch of bad excuses.. dont think we've seen much permanent helpful solutions.. I kno I'm off-campus and dont have to worry bout this... but I'm slightly "happy" after a nite out.. n I need another rant at ITS.. I think they're even more shit this year than last year.. not only is ResNet shit... but they yet have to supply a solution to move/port all the mail from Groupwise to Squirrelmail... Come on ITS shape up... wat going on.. good and decent staff and yet nothing gets done.. is it just me or does that sound like very bad and terrible management!! I say get some new leadership.. the current ITS leadership obviously obviously sucks!!

Here is my speed test.. n may I note that this is while my server is running using bandwidth as well as my housemates!! (not a clean test, but more to show that this is easily compared to ResNet in that I'm not alone on my connection!!

lol i just did this 5 times.....

202kbs, 2mbs, 2.15mbs, 151kbs, and 6.30mbs

quality of service below 10% every time :/

Theres something inconsistent going on.

btw guys.... If you are experiencing slow connections please do the following and pm it to me. I'll pass it on to the engineers.

cmd prompt.

ping rackspace.co.uk
ping google.co.uk
ping bbc.co.uk

tracert google.co.uk

results on 3 of those speedtests

and add your IP and MAC address pls.

It would also be helpful if you could do this at both a peak and a non peak time.

Ok 12.50am same night.

Download: 415,376 bps
Upload: 242,640 bps
QOS: 14%
RTT: 11 ms
MaxPause: 969 ms

This unreliability and poor service is what I have become used to. I can't wait till I get home and can actually surf the web normally.
