stunnel

Post by cocodude »

Yesterday, I set up a demonstration stunnel server on the twofo machine. This runs on port 4146 and essentially will decrypt SSL traffic to go to the twofo hub. What this means is that if you set up a stunnel client on your machine and make it point to twofo.kicks-as.net:4146, your traffic to twofo should be encrypted and you might be able to get around the traffic shaper.

I'm not sure whether stunnel is running right now, but I'll ensure it's running this evening. Basicially, if you can connect to twofo.kicks-ass.net:4146, then stunnel is running.

No support will be given at this stage in setting up your client to use stunnel. This is intended for experienced users only. stunnel is available for Unix and Windows and is available at http://www.stunnel.org/

Cool, thanks astro. It goes through the 'shaper without issue then? Is this with Windows? Is there any chance you could create a n00b's guide to stunnel and put it on the wiki?

Aye, it's easy on Windows. I've created a rar file with all the needed files
http://astropointier.googlepages.com/stunnel.rar
People just have to download it and extract the files. Then run the stunnel.exe. Once the icon is in the tray, just set DC++ to connect to localhost:9000 and it takes you straight onto twofo.
Has worked fine with the people who have tested it so far.
YOU WILL HAVE TO BE IN ACTIVE MODE AND HAVE THE CORRECT IP IN DC++ IN ORDER TO SEARCH AND DOWNLOAD. You can find your IP at http://checkip.dyndns.org/

I think for the sake of equality there should be a linux noob guide as well :D

Also I like the sounds of this.. good thinking cocodude ;)

I was actually developing another solution, but since this seems to work I'll forget it and get back to my work :P
