Do you mean ping across different subnets has been blocked ?

Because I can ping a whole pile of machines that I know of but they are all in the same subnet...

Blocking ping is just about the stupidest thing I can think of doing... ping and al the other icmp stuff should be on the highest priority...

Found another one that on the face of it looks like an answer... Lan2P Sounds like a winner, though has a god awful interface! Give it a try, could be useful if outbound DC ports get block (which I doubt will happen if we make sure the omount of traffic is low - IE no campus --> off campus transfers)

The thing is I guess is that with greater prestige comes greater responsibility - they can't be seen to condone filesharing. This being said 3-4 years ago (when IIRC warwick was ranked higher than it is today) the network was magnitudes better... So who knows...? A lot of universities have very stri...

I think an increase to 5Gb will not make that much of a difference, I'd say 10-15Gb at least. Though as said above - lets see what effects a 5Gb cap has...

Well it looks as though whatever "work" they did this morning has done absolutely nothing for the performance - well not in my halls anyway.

Oh well... :(

Though a little diggin on the net has turned up all these: Grouper Hamachi - looks initially promising Waste - in case it can be modified or something. Qnext - looks good too I have not looked into these much - other than the initial page of the websites. Someone have a good look at them - I dont ha...

Getting searches in realtime would definitely arouse suspicion of ITS. To search every windows share first you need to pin down what boxes are in the ip range (not that hard you can lookup the range warwick has purchased for the *.warwick-network.co.uk suffix) then you need to probe every address fo...

They have said that its down to "viruses" but have not disclosed any names so I guess they are assuming any extra traffic is coming from such a source. I too am betting all if not most of my money on the way the 'external' ip's are being handled that or ITS (or their contractor or whoever)...

General state of ResNet

Does anyone know the current state of the network? I have contacted ITS here numerous times over the last few days and have yet to hear anything back... It boggles my mind that the lame excuses given by ITS are responsible for the outrageous performance. Even if it is true why not reveal more about ...
