Yeah astro, I think the store labelled it wrong, or something.
Either way, it's not got a modem in it, it just lets you share an internet connection which you plug into it.

Okay, I was talking with some people about this on the hub, and I don't think I made it clear enough. My router is a BT voyager 1500 DSL router, which means that it doesn't have phone line input for internet, it has ethernet internet input. So doesn't this mean that it's pretty safe to connect it up...

Something I got caught with as well was having DHCP active on the router. Make sure you switch that off too. Did they actually fine you for it? But I thought that having DHCP on a router was one of the ways of doing NAT (as opposed to choosing static local IPs yourself), and that it wouldn't be not...

Resnet AUP

Hi, I'm just about to move back to campus for my final year, I've been reading the AUP for the resnet: 4. Network Abuse: This will incur a 56 day disconnection period and £100 reconnection charge. Examples of network abuse include, but are not limited to, port scanning, connection of hubs, switches...

Ah, an on-campus FTP server... I was thinking about that a few weeks ago... but i'm sure as soon as ITS management get a sniff of it, they'll outlaw that too (after all, it carries the same legal implications as DC or BT)

Perhaps this should be a question we raise this wednesday at the focus group?

this year the Net was Brought "in house" meaning its controlled from whithin the university as opposed to last year where it was externally controlled. yes. a couple of weeks after term started, a contract with an external company was ended, and control of Resnet was brought in-house. Pro...

If someone has a bit of spare time, could they create a spreadsheet with this data (ping times, location, date, time of day) well, that's not quite enough. i know that nobody wants to give too much away about themselves on this forum, but one of my theories is that ITS has made an error in restrict...

i know what you mean, but apparently it isn't.

Every subnet shares a 2.5meg connection, with some (who weren't on that "friday's naughty list email" getting an extra burstable 1meg)

Perhaps your subnet is smaller, so you have a better contention ratio.

Hmm, perhaps the point that should be raised is that by definition as a p2p program, skype is against the "acceptable usage policy" as shown here http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/its/facilities/studentcomputing/residences/aup/ Note that it says "Peer to Peer file sharing application...

yeap, i'm from the same kitchen as "anon101", we're gonna go together to the focus group and kick some ass hopefully. i think we'll write down a list of points that we've been discussing over the last week, (anon101 used a couple of our arguments in his long post) and just see what ITS hav...
