Twofo Social 20

February 21st, 2012

Our second-term social will be taking place this weekend, 24th/25th February (end of week 7), for anybody that wishes to come along.

Friday Social: 8pm, Wetherspoons (Benjamin Satchwell)

We plan to meet up at about 8pm in Wetherspoons in Leamington. From here we may or may not, depending on the weather, strike out across other bars in Leam to sample the delights of the town.

Saturday Social: 5pm, Fusion Bar

Hopefully we will remember some twofo posters to guide would-be attendees to us, but failing that we are often the only large group of people in Fusion and again a hotline number will be provided.

Everybody is welcome to come along; the more the merrier!

DC++ v791

January 18th, 2012

DC Plus PlusFirstly, happy new year one and all, and welcome back. A new version of DC++, 0.791, has been released recently which many of you will start getting notices about in DC++ shortly. If you can live with the message popping up there is no pressing need to upgrade but there are the obvious improvements and new shiny features to look out for.

The new version is perfectly fine to use on twofo, but if you have previously installed the preconfigured twofo version of DC++ then you will want to get the compressed version of DC++ available at http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/dcplusplus/DC%2B%2B%200.782/DCPlusPlus-0.791.zip
Extract the files in the zip archive and overwrite the files in your current DC++ directory. If you get the installer from the DC++ website you may end up losing all your current settings and having to rehash everything.
In either case you will most likely have to recreate any firewall rules you have in place so get your firewall checked again if you have had it set up previously.

New users to twofo are of course still more than welcome to get the preconfigured twofo client (which has been updated to the new version) from http://www.twofo.co.uk/resources/twofoDC++.exe

If you need help with anything do feel free to ask either on the hub or on the forums at www.twofo.co.uk/forum

Twofo Social 19

November 12th, 2011
twofo logo

The first twofo social of the year will be held next weekend, 18th/19th November (or the end of week 7 for those still in a University frame of mind). As per usual, there will be two nights of fun and partying across the weekend, the first in Leamington Spa on the Friday night and the second on campus on the Saturday afternoon/evening.

Friday Social: 8pm, Wetherspoons (Benjamin Satchwell)

Starting at around 8pm in Wetherspoons in Leamington, to allow those who need it to order food, we shall most likely perform a pub crawl of sorts around Leamington in whatever direction takes our fancy at the time. Should you arrive too late and are unable to find us, ring the twofo hotline on 07919 888376, and a friendly neighbourhood twofonian will take your call and direct you to wherever we happen to be.

Saturday Social: 5pm, Fusion Bar

How long we stay in Fusion bar will vary, but chances are we will move onto the Dirty Duck/Grad after a while. Again, the hotline will be available for those unable to find us, but look out for the twofo signs and we shall not be far away. There may be a different twofo hotline for this day - hold on for updates!

Anybody is more than welcome to come for as long as they want, even if only to say hello. It is always good to match names to the nicks on the hub :)

Welcome

twofo logo Welcome (back) one and all, both new arrivals this year and returning people from last year!
 Twofo DC++ download link

New users to twofo will want to start by downloading the preconfigured DC++ client for twofo from http://www.twofo.co.uk/resources/twofoDC++.exe. This DC++ comes preconfigured with a lot of settings which are helpful for twofo on campus, as well as the required stunnel program for connecting to the hub. This is for Windows only, mac and linux users (and windows people wanting to learn a bit more) can find connection instructions at the twofo wiki

Older users may find that DC++ is asking you to upgrade your client. Doing so with the client from the DC++ website is fine, but it will overwrite any of the settings you had before. To keep the settings you already have you need to download the zip file from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dcplusplus/files/DC%2B%2B%200.782/DCPlusPlus-0.782.zip/download. Extract the files and overwrite the ones in your current DC++ directory

Twofo is now into its 7th year running and 6th as the main campus DC++ hub. Any student past or present of the University is welcome to connect or come to the socials later on in the term and year.

It should be said however that using twofo is against the Resnet AUP. ITS have in the past (although a very long time ago now though) disconnected users for being on the hub so you are using the hub at your own risk unfortunately. To minimise this you should try to follow the guides to blocking external connections to DC++ on the wiki.

If you have any more questions, and can't get onto the hub to ask, feel free to ask on the twofo forums

See you all on the hub!

Blog software updated

June 11th, 2011

As you may have now noticed, Cocodude has now updated the software that runs this front page. Normal posts will appear here as before, but please contact us if you notice any issues.

Some of the linked pages here will still be using the old skin. I don't really have time to change that at the moment, but if someone else wants to, they can.

Twofo Social 18 (24th/25th June): Announcement & Discussion/Suggestions

June 3rd, 2011

Manly BBQThe next twofo social will take place on the 24th/25th June (end of week 9 for those of you keeping count).

Both the Friday and the Saturday socials this year will be taking place on campus.

Friday Social (24th June)

Meeting in the Airport Bar/Rootes Bar/Bar Fusion (the name varies depending on your level of senility) between 7 and 8pm and possibly moving on to the Grad/Dirty Duck later on.

Saturday Social (25th June)

All things going our way this will be a BBQ at one of the sites on campus, although exactly which one is to be decided still. This also depends on the weather so if it is chucking it down with rain we will simply slink back into one of the bars around.

Those kind enough to help set things up should aim to be ready around at 3 ish with an aim to being ready between 4 and 5 (judging by previous years this seems the sanest estimate).

Details about where we actually are will be provided either on the hub or here at the time, and a hotline number will also be provided for those who get lost.

Suggestions may be made here.
